Good ‘Ol Software - 29 Mar 2010

Good s
oftware and good hardware goes hand-in-hand. Its like drinking wine with matching wine glass (otherwise its like drinking red wine in a plastic cup). As hardware continues to advance with improvement in know-how and new technical discoveries, we can’t say the same for new software. Most reprints or reissues sound lifeless, dull and unnatural to our ears. Unless the original is so exorbitantly expensive or difficult to find (a clean copy), the rule-of-thumb is always to find an original. Your good hardware will thank you and your ears too.

Here are some good ‘ol software on our LP wall this month. Teresa Teng 偿还 (Tauras, Japan), Metallica’s Garage Days Revisited (with giant poster), Epicurus Two (Yamaha) featuring artists from Three Blind Mice, Woodstock 3LP set, Carol Kidd Crazy for Gershwin (Linn), Scott Hamilton’s Tenorshoes (Concord Jazz, Japan), Ray Brown All Stars Don’t Forget the Blues (Concord Jazz) and many more. Let the good times roll!

Quality over Quantity - 8 Feb 2010

Many customers ask how often we bring in new software. It’s hard to say but one sure thing is we refresh our stock regularly. As we are selective in what we would bring in (to keep the quality high), the quantity of each fresh shipment may sometimes be limited. However, one thing you can be sure of is, whatever you find in our LP or CD shelves, it is immediately ready and fit to play from the most modest turntables / cdp to the super league turntables / cdp. This is our guarantee to our customers.

Five Stars Electronic Music - 31 Jan 2010

At Modular Audio, we don’t just stock the more sort-after audiophile titles or your desert island discs, after all with so much good music, we can’t possibly bring ‘em all to a desert island?!

Here are some 5-stars performances we would recommend you to pick up at Modular Audio. Call it electronic or New Age but in a nutshell, its good music you would enjoy from start to finish.

Happy tripping!

lp_jarre_oxygene

The genesis of electronic music. Oxgene by Jean Michel Jarre is a must-have period.

lp_Kitaro_Tenkai_Astral Triplp_Kitaro_KiForget about Kitaro’s elusive Kojiki LP (get the CD instead).Astral Trip (1978) is vintage Kitaro. Should you starve for more Astral Trip then Kitaro’s 1979 effort Ki should complete the course.

lp_Vangelis_China

China (1979) by Vangelis. Oriental theme with a very nice and enchanting blending of acoustic, traditional instruments with the synthesizer. An essential title to add to your collection.

lp_Tomita_Planets

The Tomita Planets by Isao Tomita (composer and synthesizer expert). Classical fans may not be happy with this interpretation but interestingly done and fun to listen.

lp_OST_ThelastEmperorOscars and Grammys winning OST The Last Emperor by fame Japanese keyboardist Ryuichi Sakamoto and ex-Talking Head David Byrne.
