Redhill is an out and out music lover who has lately downsized his speakers for better living room utilisation but upsized his source component (turntable) by two folds.

Redhill’s modest system is neatly and strategically positioned in his living room with some sound treatment on the sides. The speakers fire from the long wall into his large full wall custom-made music software shelf (see below picture) which also doubles up to do sound absorption. Music from this little system is full of PRaT - lively, accurate and control all in a quiet background.
 

Basis 2200 Signature turntable, Audio Research PH5 phono stage, Monrio MJ Series Integrated Amplifier (Italy), Sony CDP, Exactpower conditioner, Harbeth speakers, cables from Furutech Reference III, PAD, Cardas. Tweaks include amber, Combak and Goldmund cones.

Basis 2200 Signature in stylish clear acrylic - finely engineered, immaculate fit and finish. In Redhill’s opinion, source is of utmost importance in his system and this is evident in his apportionment of his funds to a high-end source vis-a-vis the rest of his system. Redhill’s previous turntables include SME and VPI.

Music comes alive with this finely musical and versatile analogue front-end. The turntable is supported by the Titan granite platform.

Redhill started building his library of music over many years. Redhill recalls back then, a TAS listed lp at US$30 requires few nights of thinking before clicking the “Bid” button. Note that CD is awfully outnumbered here.

Redhill uses Mint and Loricraft RCM to deep clean his handsome lp collection. He sees lp cleaning a necessary chore in order to fully enjoy the superior vinyl sound.

Sighted next to Redhill’s hi-fi system is his little practice piano for his kids. One of this editor’s interest is doing LP treasure spotting during visits like this. Let’s see what we have here - Itzhak Perlman - Paganini - Violin Concerto No.1 (EMI), Serendipity (Reference Recording), Starker’s Bach cello solo (Mercury), Muddy Waters (200g, MFSL), Ray Brown’s Soular Energy (Concord Jazz)

One of the best recorded lp of the 90s Nirvana’s Nevermind (200g, MFSL), Neil Young’s MTV Unplugged and Neil’s other hard-to-find Harvest (Nautilus), Beatles’ Please Please Me picture disc, audiophile limited edition of Cantate Domino (lower right) and then some.
